Traditional Buildings in Fujian Province
The origin of the traditional buildings in
Fujian Province can be dated back to theSong Dynasty (about
11th century B.C.); this form of buildings became popular
in the Ming Dynasty (14th century B.C. ~ Mid-17th century
B.C.), and reached its prime day in mid- and late-Qing Dynasty
(18th century B.C.~19th century B.C). Those traditional
buildings, unique in layout and magnificent in scale, usually
have different shapes, including square, circle, and other
ones. On average, each traditional building occupies an
area of more than 1,000 square meters; some larger ones
may cover more than 10,000 square meters. Those buildings
are usually three-storey to five-storey, but some the highest
may have six floors. The largest buildings can have as many
as 400 rooms.
