Mt. Maijishan scenic area , 30 kilometers from Tianshui city in Gansu province , is located at the western sector of Qinling Mountain which is the climate dividing line between Sourth and North , and one of the key areas with various proterted living beings . It lies at the divide between Jialingjiang as a branch of the Yangzi River and Weihe as a branch of the Yellow River. Composing 6 spots of Mt . Maiji Grottoes , Xianren Cliff , Mt. Shimen , Quxi Stream , Longwang Trench and Jieting Warm Spring , it covers 366 square kilometers with 195 square kilometers for the main pretected area . Here is the transition from the warm temperate zone to subtropics , with moist weather , distinctive season , plenty of sunlight , and various living beings . There are many kinds of plants with 280 families , 1088 genus , 2696 species , including Chinese special 569 species , and 13 orders of forest insects , 132 families , 1359 species , including Chinese special 683 species , and 27 orders of vertebrates , 70 families , 285 species including Chinese special 40 species . It is one of the outstanding areas of various living beings at the same latitude of the Northern Hemisphere with peculiar characteristics and ancient history .
