Honghe Hani Terrace
Honghe Hani Terrace is located at the Honghe
Hani and Yi Autonomy, which is in the southeast part of
Yun Nan province, China. People of various nationalities
in Honghe County, Yuan Yang County, Lu Chun County and Jin
Ping County built this spectacular agriculture and zoology
wonder, which covers an area of more than a million Mu,
according to the special geography and climate there. There
you can experience four different seasons in one mountain
on a day and find water source at even very high mountains.
The Honghe Hani Terrace is a combination of both human cultures
and natural resources. Yuan Yang County, which is now applying
for the approval of world heritage, has a terrace area of
more than 170,000 Mu. The Terrace enjoys an enduring history
which can track back to 1300 years ago according to the
current historical date. Xu Guangqi, a famous agriculturalist
in Ming Dynasty, listed the Terrance as one of the Seven
Farm System in Chinese cultivation system. The Terrance
runs along the whole Ai Lao Mountain, which is located at
the south bank of Honghe River. It has a surprising high
value for history, science and aesthetics study. Hani, famous
for their technique of terrace cultivation, have a special
and deep worship for forest. And their festival, rituals,
clothes, music, dance and literature are all centered on
the terrace. They are also famous for their particular manner
for the use of water. All their behaviors show their understanding
