The Peking Man Site
Discovered in 1921, the Peking Men Site is located
at the Dragon Bone Hill in Zhoukoudian, Fangshan District,
Beijing. It is an early Paleolithic cultural site, most comprehensive
and rich in findings on earth. Peking man lived there about
500000 years ago. The discovery of a fossil skullcap of Peking
man, man-made stone tools, bone and antler artifacts, and
the signs of fire making astonished the world in the 20th
century and marked major scientific achievements. Having met
the criteria Nos.3, 6 for inclusion of cultural properties
on the World Heritage List, the Peking Man Site was inscribed
on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1987.
