Mt.Wzyishan
Noted for its gorgeous watercourses, bizarre peaks, serene
valleys and awe-some gullies, Mt.Wuyishan, located at Wuyishan,
northwestern Fujian Province, possesses typical red gritstone
geomorphic features, a complete, primeval and best preserved
ecological system of the subtropical zone as compared with
other areas of the same latitude on the planet. There exist
the remains of the Han City dating from the 1st century BC
and the site of the school where the Song thinker Zhu Xi (1130AD
-1200AD) conducted his academic research, and boat coffins
suspended inside the wall of gullies, the oldest coffins of
this sort in the world. Having met the criteria Nos.3, 4 for
inclusion of natural properties and Nos.3, 6 for inclusion
of cultural properties on the World Heritage List, Mt.Wuyishan
was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1999.
