Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area

Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area lies in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province, stretching 396.8 sq.km. Noted for its grotesque peaks, tranquil ravines, beautiful watercourses, dense forests and mystic caves, Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area has as many as 3000 grotesque peaks and 800 beautiful watercourses. Its peculiar arenaceous quartz sandstone peaks are hard to be found elsewhere in the world. There're various kinds of waterscapes of streams, springs, lakes, waterfalls and pools, and very great karst caves, primeval and comprehensive ecological system and rare wild plant and animal species as well as simple, rustic scenes. Having met the criteria No.3 for inclusion of natural properties on the World Heritage List, Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area was inscribed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1992.
